Healthy Dessert Recipes

If you are having a hard time managing these cravings, then here are some simple healthy dessert recipes that you can try at home.

Beetroot and Carrot Halwa

This halwa is rich in Vitamins A, B6, C, and folic acid. It also contains minerals such as magnesium, which is great for muscles and bone health.

Ingredients

  • Ghee- 3 tsp
  • Low fat mawa, Grated - 1/3 cup
  • Grated carrot- 2 ¼ cups
  • Grated beetroot- ¾ cup
  • Milk- 1 ¾ cup
  • Sugar- 1/3 cup
  • Cardamom powder- ¼ tsp

Directions

  1. In a deep non-stick pan, heat 1 tsp of the ghee and sauté the mava in it on a medium flame. After 2 to 3 minutes, remove it from the flame and put aside.
  2. Heat the remaining ghee in the same pan and sauté the carrots and beetroot until they are half done.
  3. Pour the milk in, mix in the sugar, mawa and the cardamom powder.
  4. Let it simmer till the liquid evaporates. Keep stirring.
  5. Once it is done, serve hot.

Dalia Kheer

Dalia is a rich source of dietary fibre and therefore helps your weight loss efforts. It is also good for the digestive system and balances blood sugar levels in your body. The milk on the other hand offers calcium for your bone health.

Ingredients

  • Dalia or broken wheat- ¼ cup
  • Low fat milk- 1 ½ cup
  • Cardamom powder- ½ tsp
  • Sugar- 2 tbsp
  • Few strands of saffron
  • Rose petals, shredded – to garnish

Directions

  1. Soak the dalia in ½ cup of water for about 20 minutes.
  2. In a pan, boil1 cup of water and cook the soaked dalia.
  3. Once the water is fully evaporated, pour the milk in and mix in the sugar.
  4. Let it come to boil and take it off the stove.
  5. Mix in the cardamom powder and saffron soaked in 2 tsps. of milk.
  6. Refrigerate and serve with a garnish of rose petals.

Jodhpuri Binach

Basmati rice is known to contain fewer fats as compared to regular rice. It is rich in fibre, proteins, and carbohydrates. When cooked in canola oil its nutritional value increases.

Ingredients

  • Basmati rice - 1 cup
  • Sugar - as per taste
  • Raisin - 1 tbsp
  • Powdered cardamom - ¼ tsp
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Saffron - few strands
  • Canola oil - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
  • Cloves - 7-8
  • Skinned and sliced almonds - 1 tbsp

Directions

  1. Clean the rice and soak in water of about ½ an hour.
  2. In a skillet, heat the oil and add the cloves. Stir for about ½ minutes.
  3. Add turmeric powder and one cup of water. Let it boil.
  4. Strain the soaked rice and add to the skillet. Partially cover the skillet and let the rice cook on a low heat.
  5. Once the rice is cooked, add the sugar, cardamom powder, raisins and saffron. Stir it well.
  6. Once the water disappears, take it off the heat.
  7. Serve warm with a garnish of almonds.

Corn Kheer

As corn is rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals, this kheer is a super nutritious alternative to rice kheer. It is also very filling and helps regulate portion sizes automatically.

Ingredients

  • Evaporated milk- 125g
  • Skim milk- 1 ½ cups
  • Corn- 3 (remove the seeds)
  • Cardamom powder- ¼ tsp
  • Almonds-10
  • Sugar- 3 tsp
  • Saffron-a few strands

Directions

  1. In a skillet, boil ½ cup of milk and add the corn seeds. Remove it from the heat when the corn is cooked.
  2. Once it is cool, grind it to get a coarse texture.
  3. In a bowl, mix the evaporated milk and 1/2 cup of milk. Stir it well to avoid any lumps.
  4. In another skillet, pour in the remaining milk and turn the heat on a medium flame. Add the corn mixture and allow it to boil for about 12 minutes. Keep stirring to prevent the mixture from sticking to the bottom.
  5. As the milk begins to boil, skin the almonds and slice them.
  6. Put them in the skillet along with the cardamom powder, sugar and saffron strands.
  7. Turn the heat off after 5 minutes.
  8. You can serve it cold or warm as per your preference.

Fruit Sandesh

Rich in calcium and vitamins, this healthy Sandesh recipe is a yummy, nutritious, and guilt-free indulgence for occasional cheat days.

Ingredients

To make the Sandesh
  • Low fat paneer - 1 cup
  • Sugar - 4 tbsp
  • Skimmed milk powder - 2tsp
  • Low fat milk - 1 tbsp
  • Mixed fruits, chopped - ½ cup

To make the orange sauce
  • Fresh orange juice - 1/3 cup
  • Corn flour - ½ tsp
  • Corn flour - ½ tsp

Directions

To make the sandesh
  1. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients except the fruits.
  2. Blend them together to make a smooth paste.
  3. In a serving dish, spread the sandesh and allow it to cool for about 30 minutes.

To make the orange sauce
  1. On a low flame, mix all the ingredients together in a pan.
  2. Allow it to cook till the sugar is fully dissolved. Allow it to cool.

To serve
  1. Garnish the cooled sandesh with the fruits.
  2. Cut it into squares.
  3. Serve with the orange sauce poured over it.
